Team Principals, Tony Fernandes and Sir Frank Williams have something in common, aside from a buring desire to lift the constructors championship trophy and starting their own F1 teams. Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the second has awarded the Team Lotus, Team Air Asia, Air Asia and Tune Group owner, Fernandes the CBE. Fernandes now joins a very select group of Formula 1 personalities with such an award.
The citation says that the award was conferred upon the Malaysian business man, "for services to promote commercial and educational links" between Malyaisa and the UK. The CBE or Commander of the order of the British Empire is the third of five ranks in the Order of the British Empire, MBE, OBE, CBE, KBE and GBE. Only recipients of a KBE or GBE are automatically Knighted though some recipients of lower ranks are Knighted in addition to their rank in the order.
For example, Sir Frank Williams has recieved an OBE, but was Knighted in addition to his rank so may use the preface, Sir.
