Hexis win action packed race

The first championship race of 2011 was won by the #3 Hexis Aston Martin. After lots of drama up front, the #3 car acclaimed victory at the Abu Dhabi track. As a result, dutch debutant Stef Dusseldorp is now leading the drivers championship sharing his lead with his more experienced teammate Piccione.

The MarcVDS Ford GT driven by Makowiecki and Martin has won the first battle in the qualifying race. Taking their first ever FIA GT1 win, they finished ahead of the two JR Motorsport Nissans who completed the podium. Polesitters Turner and Mucke failed to finish suffering a problem with the front wheel after the pitstop.
Frederic Makowiecki and Marc Hennerici have had their first taste of the Ford GT following a test at Portugal's Portimao circuit this week. Running was not always smooth for the pair, changing from the Aston Martin DBR9 and Corvette C6 respectively as rain visited the circuit intermittently.
The All-Inkl Lamborghini Murcielago RS-V driven by Nicky Pastorelli and Dominik Schwager has secured it’s maiden pole position in this weekend’s opening round of the 2011 campaign. Having been the only team not to alter their driver line up for this season, they beat the Aston Martin of Turner and Mucke to the first grid slot ahead of tomorrow’s races.
Following a bitter blow to the campaign waged by the Young Driver AMR team and the #7 DBR S9 team of Thomas Enge and Darren Turner, the drop out in Q1 yesterday, the Vitaphone Maserati pair of Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini have taken the first GT1 World Championship.
