ELMS Donington Park: OAK Claim British Glory

For over half an hour the final third of the race passed without incident. Then Jaques Nicolet suffered a mechanical mischief when the gearbox actuator malfunctioned at Hollywood. That put him off the track, trying a reset on the car to keep himself in the race, which he managed before a slow lap back to the pits and into the box.

Hour three was marked by the story of the silver ranked drivers. Nicolet and Enjalbert were at the wheel of both Morgans and both Morgans were making mistakes. The advantage that Bertrand Baguette had build in the lead of the race was being slowly eroded by the march forward of Simon Dolan in the Jota Zytek as the hour wore on.

Matthieu Lahaye has taken pole position for the second round of the European Le Mans Series in a thrilling battle with three other cars. The #24 OAK Racing Morgan-Judd claimed the top spot by a margin of just 0.142 seconds over the nearest rival. Seven LMP2 cars qualified in the top second, with number 8 missing the 1 second cut by just 0.050. The Gulf coloured Morgan, which Lahaye shares with the boss, Jaques Nicolet, set its fastest time on lap five of seven.

The question going into the first lap of the European Le Mans Series at Donington Park was, would they play it safe or would they go for it? Answer, go for it, hammer, tongs and everything else. That was ably demonstrated on the first lap with a worrying incident.

Lucas Odonez, Alex Brundle and Tom Kimber-Smith have claimed the top spot in the final free practice session ahead of the 6 Hours of Donington. The Zytek Z11SN-Nissan put in a 1:21.010 thanks to the itinerant driver, Kimber-Smith, to steal the top spot from the identically equipped Jota outfit. The margin at the top of the session, which was the first time the cars have tackled a dry Donington Park circuit, was 0.086 seconds.
